Scuba Training Facility (Providence, RI)

R.I.S.D., Spring 2008
The site strategy for a new scuba training facility and community pool is developed through an analysis of historic documentation and maps of the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence, RI. Giving depth to these remnants of the site, the new series of scuba pools nestle into the carved out spaces in the new landscape that now once again juts into the Narragansett Bay. The building section for the series of pods situated throughout the site is drawn out of the study of the new subterranean environ created through layering. These new layers function to filter the polluted water of the bay and urban runoff. The pods themselves also act as filters, controlling southern light and view for the interior spaces.
